Question:
I am looking at replacing my current Dometic AC unit with the Advent. One of the main reasons to replace it is that the Dometic unit is so noisy that you cannot have a conversation in the trailer with it running. What is the measured noise level in decibels for the Advent unit? Does the Advent unit have a soft start feature? And how many amps does it draw while running?

Expert Reply:
The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM150 has an approximate decibel level of 76, which can be a bit loud since anything over 70 is typically seen as a disturbance. If you have a ducted system closing the vent on the plenum of your air distribution box and solely using the ducts can help cut down on noise.
The Advent Air # ACM150 doesn't come with a soft start, but you can purchase one separately with part # ACMSCKIT. Adding on a start capacitor can also help reduce the decibel level since the unit won't have to work as hard at startup. While running the unit is going to pull about 15 amps (Compressor power draw: 12.4 amps, Fan motor power draw: 2.6 amps).
Overall the Advent Air will be a great replacement for your Dometic unit, but you'll want to check one last thing before purchasing. If you remove the plenum of your air distribution box you should be able to see the wire harness for the rooftop condenser unit running to the controller. This wire harness will have either a 6-pin or 9-pin connector on it. If it has a 9-pin connector you'll need to also pick up an adapter # ACCOLKIT.
