Advent Air Accessories and Parts - ACMSCKIT

  • RV Air Conditioners
  • Start Capacitor
  • Advent Air

If your generator or shore power needs a little extra help to start your RV AC unit, this start capacitor will give it the power boost it needs. Relay switch turns the capacitor off once power has been supplied.

Features:

  • Start capacitor jumpstarts the AC (sold separately) when a campsite or generator doesn't provide enough power
    • Stores energy that will later be used for the next startup
  • Relay switch turns starts capacitor off once sufficient power has been supplied
  • Easy, bolt-on installation
    • Hardware not included

Specs:

  • Overall dimensions: dimensions: 2-1/8" long x 3-5/8" deep x 6-5/16" tall
  • 1-Year warranty

How the Start Capacitor Works

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

To install, bolt it to the fan motor support and then route the wires to the run capacitor. Mounting hardware is not included.

Video Transcript for Advent Air RV Air Conditioner Start Capacitor Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the start capacitor for the Advent Air RV air conditioners, part number ACMSCKIT.This capacitor can be installed in any 120-volt AC unit. It'll generate its charge and work properly with any other unit. If you didn't have a capacitor and you're at a campsite with a 20-amp circuit, you'll have no problem starting your AC unit. But if you're at a campsite that doesn't have a 20-amp circuit, and you're required to use your generator, you may have a difficult time starting your unit. This capacitor can store a charge to assist your generator and fire up your AC compressor. We're going to be installing our capacitor on the ceiling-mount Advent air conditioner, part number ACM150. To do this, we're going to need to remove the cover.

There are 10 screws located around the perimeter of the cover. Just remove those screws and slide your cover off. With our cover removed, we're going to mount our capacitor in the case. It's going to mount right here on the backside of the fan mount. Connect that to the fan mount using the two screws provided in the kit.I'll cut your zip tie and route your wire underneath your fan. Run your wire over to the terminals underneath this sheathing.

Once you've got it over there, cut the zip tie and remove the sheathing. Connect one black wire to the HDRM circuit, which is your red wire. And then connect your other black wire to your common circuit. We're going to use the one with the tab on our common, since there's only one tab remaining on the common, we'll have another point to connect another wire in the future, if we needed to. With your wires connected, push your sheathing back over your starter and reattach it with the included zip tie. With our capacitor completely installed, slide your cover back on, and secure it with the 10 screws.

And that completes our look at the start capacitor for the Advent Air RV air conditioners.

The unit installed very easily. My Advent 135 is an earlier unit, the configuation is a bit different. But the piece went on pretty easy. 567174

I purchased the ACMKIT for my coleman mach 1350 btu A.C. on my R.V. travel trailer. My two 2000 watts SUA2000i generators would not start my air conditioning compressor. I installed the hard start capacitor, it solved the problem. Very satisfied. 564683

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Solar Panel Kit Ability to Run Air Conditioner 24/7
  • The Go Power Solar All-Electric Kit will not be enough to power the air conditioner unit 24/7. The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Ceiling Vent and Start Capacitor - White # ACM135C will have a running wattage of 1,450 and the Atwood # AT15025-21 will run at 1,265 watts so the power draw is substantial and when using the Go Power Pure Sine Wave Inverter - 1500 Watt - 12V # 34279950 you will have the power to run it, but the battery bank will deplete as the solar cannot create enough charge...

  • Will Advent Air Replacement Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACDOM150 Use Dometic Analog Thermostat
  • The Advent Air Replacement Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACDOM150 includes the AC unit which connects directly to your Dometic wiring as well as the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT. This means that you will just remove your current unit and set this one in its place. The Start Capacitor keeps enough charge to start your AC unit which is great for times when the starting draw of the AC unit might exceed the output of the campsite. This unit uses your existing Dometic ceiling vent and thermostat.

  • Adding a Heat Strip to Advent AC Units
  • The Advent Air Electric Heat Strip - 5,500 Btu # ACMHD can be added to many of the Advent Air Conditioner Units. It can be added to the following to take the chill out of the air: # ACM135 - 13,500 BTU White Air Conditioner # ACM135B - 13,500 BTU Black Air Conditioner # ACM150 - 15,000 BTU White Air Conditioner # ACM150B - 15,000 BTU Black Air Conditioner I also recommend getting the start capacitor # ACMSCKIT to allow you to start your AC without any additional current draw needed...

  • Replacement AC Shroud for Coleman Mach Air Conditioner
  • We do have replacement AC shrouds for your Coleman Mach Unit. You will want the MaxxAir TuffMaxx Replacement Shroud - White # MA00-325001 which is a confirmed fit for your AC unit. While you are replacing this, I also recommend you add the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACMSCKIT which will allow your AC to start without requiring extra amperage, so it will start the first time and every time you need it by storing the energy needed for that start power draw.

  • Hard Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioner for Using Generator
  • The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/Vent, Start Capacitor, and Heat Strip, White # ACM150CH includes the start capacitor # ACMSCKIT. The air conditioner has a running amperage of 15 amps and a starting amperage of 45 amps. Many camping sites don't offer that power or do generators. When using this start capacitor the draw at start is 15 amps and then the running amps remain at 15 as well. As the air conditioner runs the start capacitor slowly stores additional energy to restore the charge...

  • Are Advent Air Conditioner Units ACDOM150 and ACM150 the Same
  • That is correct. The part # ACDOM150 that you referenced is the exact same as the Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACM150 with the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT. This is compatible with Dometic connections that use the 6 pin connector that you see in the attached photo.

  • Can the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM150 be Used to Replace a Carrier 13,500 Watt AC Unit
  • You can definitely replace your current Carrier system with the Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACM150 as long as you use the Adapter # ACCARKIT. This unit has a running amp draw of about 15 amps but the startup amp draw is about 45 amps. You will need a different fuse and breaker but you need to make sure that it is safe to do so. I recommend having a professional electrician look at your setup so that nothing burns down. If you install the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT as well...

  • Will Advent AC Unit Replace a Carrier AC Unit
  • According to Advent you will be able to use the Advent Air Replacement RV Air Conditioner for Carrier Setup # ACCAR150 as a replacement for your current AC so long as the thermostat and relay box of your Carrier AC is functional, as you can see by the cut out of the Advent tech bulletin I added for you. This kit includes the Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACM150, Carrier Adapter Kit # ACCARKIT and Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACMSCKIT. I have added...

  • Will a Small Honda Generator be Able to Run the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135
  • The Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACM135 has a wattage rating of 1,450 watts so that would seem to be enough but you really need to look at the amps as well to make sure that your Honda generator can handle the draw. This unit has a 15 amp rating for when it is running but for startup the amp rating is 45 amps. I do recommend installing the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT as well. This stores energy to help with the startup draw and is typically helpful for when you are at a campsite...

  • Replacing a Carrier A/C Unit with an Advent Air A/C Unit
  • The Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner part # ACM135 for 13,500 Btu's or part # ACM150 for 15,000 Btu's are both available and ready for purchase. The Coleman Adapter Kit part # ACCOLKIT that you referenced is for Coleman units so it will not be needed to replace your Carrier. However, both of the above kits come with everything that is needed anyhow. The adapter kit is more or less to retain your wall thermostat which you said you do not have. There are no Advent to Carrier adapter...

  • Amperage Draw of Advent Air Conditioner part # ACM135 When Using Start Capacitor
  • The Advent Air Conditioner part # ACM135 has a running amperage draw of 15 amps and a starting amperage draw of 45. If you were to use the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACMSCKIT too then the start amperage draw would drop down to 15 amps.

  • Compatibility of Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner with Honda 2000 Watt Generator
  • The Honda EU2000 has been tested and will not start the Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner - 13,500 Btu - White # ACM135 unless it has the added Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACMSCKIT. With this capacitor, you can start the unit with that Honda generator and run it, because it uses stores the power needed for that additional power surge needed at start up. You will be able to continue running the unit off the generator as the start capacitor regains its power...

  • Is 13,500 Btu Advent Air Conditioner Compatible with Ducted RV System
  • The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135 is compatible with both ducted or non-ducted systems so it will work great with your RV! Since Duo-Therm is a Dometic product this AC unit should work with your control box as Advent made sure their products works with Dometic AC units. I do recommend also installing the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT as well. This stores energy needed to start the Advent unit so that you aren't pulling a lot of power just to start your AC unit.

  • Replacement Rooftop Air Conditioner for Carrier V Setup
  • I am not sure if you are aware or not but there is a significant increase in power requirements when starting a rooftop air conditioner. For example, the 15,000 Btu Advent Air RV Air Conditioner requires almost 5,000 watts upon startup if not using a start capacitor. The Honda EU2200's would only produce 4,400 watts so this might be your issue. Therefore, the solution to this problem would be to install the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners part # ACMSCKIT which brings...

  • Does the Advent 13,500 Btu RV Air Conditioner Come With a Start Capacitor
  • The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner part # ACM135 does not come with any sort of integrated start capacitor but this can be added using the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners part # ACMSCKIT. The start capacitor will bring down the amps required to start the unit which will help ease the strain on your generator as well as when you have it hooked up to shore power. I highly recommend adding one as it is a very cost effective, worthy investment.

  • Difference Between the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACDOM135B and # ACM135B
  • The only difference between the Advent Air Replacement Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACDOM135B and the part # ACM135B is that the first one includes the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT. Other than that the wiring on these units are the exact same. The Dometic setup simply means that this is compatible with your current setup (ceiling vent and thermostat) if you are replacing a Dometic rooftop AC unit. If you are replacing a different rooftop AC unit please let me know and I can see if we have...

  • Does Advent Air Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT Work on 15,000 BTU Advent Air AC Unit
  • Yes, the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACMSCKIT will work great with your Advent Air AC unit that you have. What's great about this is that it basically can work on any RV AC unit that is power by 120 VAC. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Will Advent Air Replace Dometic DuoTherm Brisk II AC Unit
  • The Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner # ACM135 has connectors that match up with Dometic AC unit wiring. Since your DuoTherm Brisk II is a Dometic AC unit the Advent 13.5K will install directly in its place and you can use the same controls. I do recommend also installing the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT as well. This stores energy needed to start the Advent unit so that you aren't pulling a lot of power just to start your AC unit.

  • Availability of Advent 13,500 Btu Air Conditioner with Air Distribution Box # ACRG15
  • There isn't a full Advent Air Kit available that includes the Air Distribution Box # ACRG15 in place of the standard model, however you could piece together your own kit using the individual components. To match the contents of the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner Kit # ACM135CH you were looking at (except for the Air Distribution Box) you would just need part # ACM135 for the 13,500 Btu AC itself, # ACMHD for the Heat Strip, # ACMSCKIT for the Start Capacitor, and # ACRG15 for the upgraded...

  • The etrailer 3,200-Watt Portable Inverter Generator - 2,900 Running Watts - Gas - Remote Start # 333-0003 is a really nice option for your off-grid camping. This generator has a surge power output of 3,200 watts. I don't know what your Dometic unit pulls at startup however that is the biggest issue when off-grid camping because that start pull far more power than it takes to simply run the unit after start and many generators cannot handle the initial draw. Advent has their 13,500 BTU AC units # ACCAR135 for white or # ACCAR135B for black that include an adapter that makes it a direct replacement for your Carrier unit.
