  • RV Air Conditioners
  • Start Capacitor
  • Advent Air

If your generator or shore power needs a little extra help to start your RV AC unit, this start capacitor will give it the power boost it needs. Relay switch turns the capacitor off once power has been supplied.

Features:

  • Start capacitor jumpstarts the AC (sold separately) when a campsite or generator doesn't provide enough power
    • Stores energy that will later be used for the next startup
  • Relay switch turns starts capacitor off once sufficient power has been supplied
  • Easy, bolt-on installation
    • Hardware not included

Specs:

  • Overall dimensions: dimensions: 2-1/8" long x 3-5/8" deep x 6-5/16" tall
  • 1-Year warranty

How the Start Capacitor Works

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

To install, bolt it to the fan motor support and then route the wires to the run capacitor. Mounting hardware is not included.

It only makes sense to install this extra capacitor to your RV air conditioner. This unit arrived with easy to follow printed instructions and the video instructions were a great help. Installation only took a few minutes.
***One tip I would offer when attaching the capacitor to the blower - screw in the attachement screws first without the capacitor. The screws are a tight fit intially and this step will allow them to go in much easier when you are attaching the capacitor body.

As always etrailer has the right products at the right price with excellent customer service.

Still working strong. Helps start AC with our generator.

by:

Installation went well and the instructions was easy to read and understand.I had the old unit out ,cleansed the roof and installed the new unit by myself in half a day and finished up wiring inside in a short time .Everything worked as explained,Thanks so much for your input and help with picking the right replacement ac unit

The item was delivered on time and very very easy to install I had it done and I would say less than 5 minutes between removing the cover routing the wires over to the capacitor and making the connection everything that was needed was included would recommend buying. I'm using a 3500 run time generator at my camper to operate a 15,000 BTU air conditioner and I wanted every Edge to help the compressor start without bogging down the generator I haven't done the actual run yet but I'm sure it will be okay and do as it was meant to do I've noticed Improvement with the startup of the air conditioner even under normal conditions plugged into Shoreline.

This is a must have for using the advent air 15kBTU with a generator. Great product, very easy installation, very easy wiring.

by:

Installed this start capacitor on my new Advent RV air conditioner that replaced an old Carrier Air V unit that I had installed a soft start on. This start capacitor was only $19 dollars compared to $300 for the Soft start.

I am writing this due to the all the emails etrailer sends to me to remember to review the item… This review is more for etrailer than the product as I haven’t been able to install the item yet. I ordered this because the website said it would be delivered on July 14th, which would have been perfect timing for our trip. I was planning on installing it that afternoon, so we could take off that evening. However, it didn’t ship until the 14th, so I wasn’t able to install it before we left. The AC compressor struggled to start and even tripped the breaker a few times. Luckily, we were in camp when it happened, and not away so I could reset the breaker.

I know it might not be couth to write a review without actually using the item, but I also paid for a service. A service which etrailer fell short.

by:

I don't notice a difference in the performance at start up. Maybe I didn't need this part afterall. It comes on initially but it wont turn back on after i turn the unit off. It didn't come with the mounting screws so I got some from the hardware store. The videos online are wa
Hy I gave it 4 stars and I trust it will serve me well in the future. Don't know we will see.

Installed on Advent air conditioner replacement for a Dometic unit. Easy installation. Works fine.

by:

Love the Advent. Easy installation and works as advertised.Keeps the trailer that i race karts out of very comfortable.Installed also the heat strip and it does well also when needed.

by:

I just now was able to install. Installation was easy and the start capacitor works as it should.

by:

DOA. Had to pay money to a RV repairman to prove it was defective. Never got reimbursed.

I am so sorry to hear that this arrived DOA. I do see that per ASA, if an item arrives DOA on arrival, then it needs to be replaced. It seems that they wont have any replacements any time soon. We should be having some in our stock by the end of the year. Please let me know if you would like to wait for a replacement or if you would prefer to have a refund and return issued.

by:

This make all the difference in the world. Holding a charge to start the AC condenser is a win.

by:

I put it on and I sure it will work but there is still and issue with air conditioner. It’s new but the electrical is not working.

by:

It's a start capacitor and it works. Not much more to say. Etrailer's price is right and it comes packed very nicely.

by:

Plug and play. Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

by:

Great customer service. Great web site and easy to find needed parts.

by:

It's a start capacitor but marketed as a soft start component that would make it easier for underpowered shore line or generator. After installing the unit, AC startup with generator was not improved. etrailer support actually laughed when I asked if the Start Capacitor would perform like a Soft Start system. Save your money and buy the electronic soft start instead.

by:

getting that put in by a friend, he does this for a living, I'm sure it will work well

by:

Easy to install. Best I can tell it works fine.

by:

No issues easy to install

by:

Fast service and shipping

by:

I can tell you I was glad to get this starting capacitor for my air conditioner. Now I will be able to use my generator.
It was easy to install.
I had one thing that was a guess about it the two wires were black I could only pick one to go to red and one to go to black on the air conditioner capacitor.

by:

I don't know if you really want me to you lied to me right off the bench saying these plug right in plug and Play I just didn't happen I'd spend $XX for a pigtail get it plugged in and it's still it doesn't work right with the automatic air it might work good with switch air on and off but climate control with the Vance please don't sell it to another one like that cuz it doesn't work right thank you

by:

etrailer is tops with me.caring people every time. Paul did great.

by:

Really helps the ac start and operate mor efficiently by not pulling so many amps.

  • How Big of a Generator Do I Need with The Start Capacitor?
The Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners item # ACMSCKIT you referenced is designed specifically for the Advent Air RV Air Conditioners like yours. Yes, it will work with a 2,000 watt generator but you will have little extra wattage to run any of the other electronics in your camper. The start capacitor will bring down the starting amps for the air conditioner to 1800 watts. I recommend using a 3,000 watt generator with the Start Capacitor Item # ACMSCKIT.

  • Is 13,500 Btu Advent Air Conditioner Compatible with Ducted RV System
The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135 is compatible with both ducted or non-ducted systems so it will work great with your RV! Since Duo-Therm is a Dometic product this AC unit should work with your control box as Advent made sure their products works with Dometic AC units. I do recommend also installing the Start Capacitor # ACMSCKIT as well. This stores energy needed to start the Advent unit so that you aren't pulling a lot of power just to start your AC unit.

No, the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACMSCKIT is not required to use the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135. The Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACMSCKIT will help to jumpstart your A/C if you are not getting enough power to start your A/C. It stores energy that will later be used for the next startup. It is not required to have the start capacitor, but it is a good tool to have.

  • Replacement Rooftop Air Conditioner for Carrier V Setup
I am not sure if you are aware or not but there is a significant increase in power requirements when starting a rooftop air conditioner.
