How Large Of A Battery Bank Is Needed For The Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System

Updated 03/21/2023 | Published 03/20/2023

Question:

Interested in buying the three panel solar system GP99MR but only have enough space for one battery. Do you have any suggestions on types of battery that would be best for this?

Go Power recommends up to one 200 watt solar panel per 100 amp hour battery because it can send more power to the battery than it can handle and will start throwing up error codes on the controller. You would need to use multiple batteries or go with a large one like the Power Sonic RV Lithium Battery # PS74FR, which has a 300 amp hour rating.

This battery is pretty big though 20-1/2" long x 10-9/16" wide x 8-3/4" tall so it's most likely not a good option. It's also lithium, which is better than AGM or lead acid batteries but would require some equipment changes if you have a converter that isn't compatible with lithium.

If you could provide me with the dimensions of the space you have for the battery I could try to see if there's any sort of combination of two batteries that would fit in the space you have available.
