Wider Axle Options For a Harbor Freight 4 x 8 Folding Trailer Which Allow For Larger Wheels & Tires

Updated 03/08/2023 | Published 03/07/2023

Question:

I have a trusty old 4x8 harbor freight utility trailer of the folding type Id like to have a wider footprint and be able to use 14 or 15 inch wheels. Which axles would work best ? Im thinking 2500 lb to 3500 lb axle with 5 bolt pattern? Thanks

Our narrowest 3,500lb axle is going to be the Axle # e65GR which is 89" from hub face to hub face. To mount this and widen your trailer you will need to modify the trailer which will entail new frame and suspension components. We do have a 72" wide 2,000lb Axle # e37YR which still exceeds the weight rating on your Harbor Freight trailer. This will still likely require some modification as it is about a foot wider than your stock axle. Both axles come with 5 on 4-1/2" idler hubs and will allow you to mount 13" to 15" wheels and tires.
