Thule Roof Cargo Box That Accommodates Skis Up To 170cm In Length
Updated 01/23/2014 | Published 01/21/2014 >
Question:
What is the longest pair of skis you can put in this box, not an angle, where they dont interfere with the hinges? Thule says 178cm, but I want to make sure I can put in multiple pairs of 170s, parallel to the length of the box, without it being an issue.

According to my Thule representative, the Atlantis 1600 box accommodates up to 6 pairs of skis that are no longer than 178 cm with no hinge interference. I did want to let you know that the Atlantis cargo box has been discontinued, but the Thule Pulse XL, part # TH615 is a very close replacement, with a 16 cubic foot capacity. It can accommodate 6-8 pairs of skis up to 181cm in length. If your Subaru Outback is equipped with the OEM crossbars, the Pulse XL should not interfere with the rear hatch opening fully.
I have linked you to a product demonstration video, as well as to an article about cargo boxes that you might find helpful.
