Crossbar Size for 2 Malone SeaWing Carriers on a 2014 Dodge Journey
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
What distance do you have to have between your rails to carry 2 kayaks that are each 32 inches across? I understand that the wings are 27 inches across and can carry a kayak up to 32 inches, thats 2.5 inches of overhang on either side or 5 inches minimum distance between wings if they are mounted 2 across. I do not know though what is the distance from the edge of the mounting bracket to the end of the far wing Thanks!

To fit 2 of the Malone SeaWing Kayak Roof Rack w/ Load Assist and Tie-Downs # MPG113MD on your 2014 Dodge Journey you need at least 32" of space for your kayaks to fit next to each other. Since we're also adding the width of the mounting bracket that wraps around under the crossbar I think it's safe to bump that up to 34" of space just to be on the safe side of things, but this is just for the underside of the bar. Since this uses a top plate that's going to bumper out the needed top clearance of the bar to be about 38".
Because of this I recommend using the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG215 which uses 50" long crossbars that mount on top of the raised rails of your 2014 Dodge Journey giving you more than enough room for your kayaks to comfortably fit on your roof.
Attached is an installation video of the AirFlow2 on a Dodge Journey and a review video of the SeaWing for you to check out!
