Could DOT 4LV Brake Fluid be Used in Hydrastar Actuators
Published 01/12/2023 >
Question:
I see that etrailer.com states that we must use DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid in the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi. However, can we use DOT 4LV. This is what is required on my Superduty so I wanted to use what I have if possible. thanks,

Expert Reply:
The DOT 4 LV is a lower viscosity version of the 4 formula. It's never been tested in the Hydrastar actuators like # HBA16 and based on the performance differences people have noted in automotive applications when using one over the other I would not recommend it. It might work to a diminished degree or it might work totally fine depending on your climate but for the price of regular DOT 4 I would stick with DOT 3 or DOT 4.
