Is There A vent Cover That Will Allow A Fan-Tastic RV Roof Vent Lid To Fully Open

Updated 01/09/2023 | Published 01/07/2023

Question:

usually etrailer is good about answering questions correctly, but as im searching for an answer to a common problem, I find that your experts are either skirting around the question, or just plain dont have a clue... which they should if they are selling the products the question is about..... so I will attempt to explain the problem we are having, and ask the question again, and see what kind of answers I get back.. I have a fantastic automaticinch roof vent that opens to a height of 14 inches.... the common roof vent rain covers arent that tall.... and as the vent fan has a heat sensor that allows it to open/close automatically as determined by its thermostat setting when the switch is on..... so the regular sized covers wont work on fantastic roof vents because they will cause the lid to jam against the rain cover before the lid is fully open, causing damage.... so the question here is... which model of roof vent will allow a fantastic roof vent lid to open all the way so it can work properly without damage?.... Thank you for your help in this matter....

I went out to our warehouse and measured/test fit the Fan-Tastic Vent Ultra Breeze Trailer Roof Vent Cover # FVU1500WH and Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent # FV807350. When the lid on the # FV807350 is fully open it sits approximately 11" from the mounting flange. The # FVU1500WH only has 10" of interior height.

The manufacturer, Dometic, knows this and says that it should sense the lid pressing against it and stop to prevent damage to the gears. There is not another cover with a larger interior height so you're kind of stuck between the a cover that's just a bit too short or going without the cover.

My recommendation is to still use the cover because it will allow you to use your vent no matter the weather conditions and will also allow you to leave the vent open while traveling on the highway to help vent out heat while you're on your way to your destination.
