Recommended Replacement Tires For a 2003 Forest River Rockwood 1940LTD Camping Trailer

Question:

Have a 2003 Forest River rockwood 1940LTD. GVW 2381 UVW 1656 currenty have Federal 155/80r 12. Looking at the am10130 or the am 10140. Like the load range on the am10140 but like the speed on am10130 at 85mph what would you suggest? why is ihere a mph differance? Thanks would really like to go with 13s but not certain if they would fit.

I recommend using the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10130 on your 2003 Forest River Rockwood 1940LTD. While this tire does only have a capacity of 1,220lbs per tire it does exceed the GVWR for your trailer.

Yes, the Load Range E Kenda # AM10140 does have a higher capacity of 1,520lbs per tire but this can lead to more bouncing of the trailer. Which will transfer more shock inside the trailer and can be felt by your tow vehicle. As far as the speed difference it is difficult to understand why the manufacturer would have 2 different ratings for the same size and model tire with only different load ratings. It must be a difference in the carcass of the tire that leads to the different speed ratings.
