Question:

I have a Thule Adventurer Cargo Box, and a Thule N031 key. The key fits into the lock cores on the box but the key does not turn. I dont have any other key. Currently, the lock cores are unmarked unfortunately but unlocked. With this information, can you tell if I have the wrong key? What do I need to purchase to be able to properly lock my cargo box and potentially replace the lock cores?

If you can't see the key number on your Thule Adventurer Cargo Box then it could be that your N031 Key # THKEYN031 isn't the right fit.

If the key came with the box then I have some troubleshooting tips, but if you're unsure whether that's the right key then the good news is that you can use a lock core kit like part # TH450200 to replace your current lock core. Since it's unlocked you'll use the universal change key to remove the core as well as place the new core into the cargo box. This comes with 2 cores, 2 keys, and 1 change key. Be sure to record the key number since the number is located on the sides of the core and won't be visible once the core is installed.

To troubleshoot a key that SHOULD be working you'll want to spray a silicone lubricant into the core, insert the key, and give it a few light taps with a rubber mallet. This will ensure the key is fully seated into the lock core and should then allow you to turn the key.
