The Curt Class I hitch you mentioned, part # C11221 is for a 2011-2014 Chevy Volt. Due to the small size of the vehicle and the structure of the rear of the vehicle, there is only a Class I hitch with the 1-1/4 inch by 1-1/4 inch receiver opening available. A 2 inch receiver is unfortunately not available.
Since the vehicle would use a Class I hitch, the best practice would be to use a hitch mounted accessory like a bike rack or cargo carrier that is Class I compatible (see link). Using a hitch adapter like part # HTAD would allow an accessory for a 2 inch receiver to be used, but using the adapter would increase the distance between the accessory and the hitch and would apply more leverage to the receiver tube which could damage it. Therefore, the hitch manufacturers state that using a hitch adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. This particular hitch has a 100 lb tongue weight capacity, so using the adapter would lower that to 50 lbs. This means that the weight of the hitch accessory plus whatever is placed on that accessory could not weigh more than 50 lbs. At this point, there would not be enough capacity to carry much of anything.
