Question:

I have a RV built by ford with a trailer recepticle. Its 6 prong. I plugged in a flat 4 adapter to a set of lights.The lights come on but the signals both flash at the same time and there are no brake lights Would the recepticle be wired wrong or do I need a 6 prong plug in to the mag based lights?

It sounds to me like your 6-Way connector has been wired for some alternate wiring situation, and that is most likely why the adapter does not work properly with the Magnetic lights. I would use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if you need one, and check all of the functions in the 6-Way connector on the RV. Draw a diagram and label each circuit. You will need the stop, turn/brake, tail and ground functions out of the 6-way connector to operate the functions on the 4-way connection of the Magnetic lights. You can then either rewire the 6-Way connector to the proper poles (recommended) so the adapter will work properly, see link, or make an adapter with a 6-Way Trailer Connector, Trailer End, item # PK11604, and a 4-Pole 60 inch Long Vehicle End, item # 18002.

There is a possibility that the 6-way connector is shorted inside or not grounded properly to the vehicle so you should check these possibilities first.
