Helpful Expert Reply:
The crossbar spread, distance between 2 roof rack crossbars, is normally measured from center to center. That is how we measure them and how the manufacturers of roof racks and accessories measure them. Sixteen inches is pretty short. If you can tell me the year, make, and model of the vehicle along with the brand of roof rack, there may be a stretch kit available that will make the bar spread a little wider. A wider spread means more accessories could fit that would not fit before and will offer more stability.
