Question:

I just completed installing the Demco Stay in play unit on my 2022 Ford Ranger. On my first short drive the next day I noticed the Auto-Stop-Start was not enabled because of the appearance of the greyed-outfoot symbol in the information graphics. It started out normal and after a couple of miles the symbol came on. I researched in the owners manual and one of the listed conditions that must be met to enable the ASS is adequate brake vacuum. Another is ambient temperature is moderate. since the temp at the time was in upper 90s, I took another short trip this morning when temp was in low 80s. The symbol came on intermittently while other times it acted as I am used to. I am concerned that some connection is loosing vacuum although every connection was very snug and if there was any slippage in a connection i added hose clamps. Per Demcos advice, I used the 6257 vacuum tee assembly but added a 90 elbow on the engine end to head back towards front of vehicle and tie into the factory hose. Because of the awkward configuration and size of the assembly could it be putting some stress on a connection and allowing leakage? Thinking of the port in the brake booster but possibly anywhere. Is it likely that this installation is reducing the vacuum pressure in the system? Thanks in advance, Richard.

Sorry to read you are having an issue with the installation of your Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink Monitor, # DM86VR. I contacted the Demco Tech Reps and they have a suggestion, replace the rubber grommet in the vacuum booster.

They stated that if you used the Demco Vacuum Connection Tee Fitting # DM6257, which you did, then about the only thing that could potentially be causing a vacuum leak would be the rubber grommet in the vehicles brake booster. They state this because they had the same type of thing happen to them during a training install where they discovered the Ford factory rubber grommet had a slight tear in it from removing the sensor/inserting the # DM6257. They suggest replacing that rubber grommet in the vacuum booster and they think that will resolve your issue.
