What Extra Long Crossbars do You Recommend for Transporting 2 Canoes on My 2009 Kia Sedona?

Question:
Hi, I have a 2009 Kia Sedona and I am trying to find crossbars that can be attached to my factory side rails that would allow me to carry two canoes side by side about 60 so I would need racks that are at least 65inch and would prefer a little longer. The boats are lightweight about 30 pounds each so not worried about weight. I would prefer round racks so I can put some pvc over them to roll which makes loading the boats easier but that is more of an added bonus than a requirement. I just couldnt seem to find anything when I was searching.

Even though we do not have round crossbars that provide you with the length you need, we do have a perfect aero-bar system for you. This is because both of our round bar lengths are 48" inches # Y00408 and 78" # Y00411. While the 48" bars are too short, the 78" bars are dangerously too long according to the vehicle width specs on the 2009 Kia Sedona with raised rails. Those 78" bars may even be illegal in some municipalities.
With that being said, in order to add the long crossbar length you need for your 2009 Kia Sedona to canoes on a 60 inch crossbar space without being too long, I recommend the following aero crossbar parts:
- Yakima JetStream Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 70" Long # Y00427
- TimberLine Towers # Y33TR
- Yakima Same-Key Lock Cores # Y07204
With this setup, you get the extra crossbar space you are looking for without any safety/legal worries. These aero bars are also more aerodynamic than round bars which ultimately leads to a quieter ride and increased fuel efficiency. This roof rack provides you with 165 pound of total weight capacity. As with all roof racks, I recommend consulting with your Kia owner's manual to make sure you abide by all manufacturer guidelines.
As far as loading the canoes onto the bars, I recommend using 2 sets of the Thule SUP and Surfboard Pads for AeroCrossbars - 30" # TH846000. Since these pads are designed to fit aero bars that measure 3-1/8" wide x 1" tall, they match those exact dimensions of the JetStream crossbars. The nylon outer fabric provides you with the sliding ease you need. They also work well with canoes.
For load straps and stern ties for your canoes, I recommend using 2 sets of the Yakima Bow/Stern Tie-Down Ropes w/ Ratchets and Strap Loops - 1/4" x 12' # Y04031. These kits include everything you need to safely and securely transport your canoes.
