Can You Obtain Higher Speed Rating for 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tires

Updated 05/03/2022 | Published 05/02/2022

Question:

Hi. I currently pull a small kayak trailer with Eco Trail ST, 4.80 - 8, 6 PR, load range C, tires, on 4 hole wheels I need one or two replacement tires that will let me pull the trailer at 75+ mph. On your site, I see a AS4808B4WSinch tire/wheel combo. Will that tire work in place of what Im currently using? Thanks for any clear answer

I do have an option for you but you won't be able to achieve the speed rating you're after with a 4.80/4.00-8 tire as they are simply too small therefore you'll have to either upgrade assuming you have space for this or simply watch your speed when towing. The Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel part # AM31199DX for example has an 81 mph speed rating and measures 21.3" diameter x 5.7" wide. Please note, you'll need about 3" of space above the tire and 1" inside to account for suspension travel.
