Question:

We are wanting to purchase a bike rack for our new CX-5, but were hoping to avoid roof rack mounted as Ive ripped bikes off a roof before or trailer hitch mounted. Is there any model that can be attached to the rear door such as the Thule Gateway or Thule OutWay 3?

Of the available options, I would highly recommend the Thule OutWay # TH56BV. The OutWay trunk mounted bike racks use a unique cable mounting system that allows the rack to be installed or removed in a matter of moments. The 2 mounting cables are quickly tightened using the knobs on the rack, instead of having to fumble with 6 straps and buckles each time the rack needs to be installed or removed. The OutWay is also lockable to help deter theft.

To carry women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # TH982XT is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
