Will Installation of EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver on 2021 Nissan Leaf Damage the Frame

Question:

Just wanted to know if your eco hitch will fit a 2021 Nissan Leaf. My mechanic claims the install will be difficult and likely to damage my car frame. Have you had any complaints about this? Thanks

Installation of the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7221 on your 2021 Nissan Leaf will not damage the frame of your vehicle. It is possible that access holes may need to be enlarged for installation, but the hitch does not impact the frame in any way and bolts on underneath.

The only way you are going to damage the frame of your vehicle is if you exceed your towing capacity or tongue weight capacity. Although this hitch has a maximum gross towing weight of 2,000 lbs and max tongue weight of 300 lbs, more than likely your vehicle is not capable of handling this much weight. Make sure to check your owner's manual for the towing and tongue weight capacity of your vehicle.

I just installed one today on a 2014 Nissan Leaf and found that one of the four 3/8"D X 3/4"W X 2"L X 1/4"T washers/bars was almost 7/8" wide. Instead of making the access hole larger I opted to make the errant part narrower to fit the hole in the frame without violating the vehicles anti-rust coating and of course painted it black with an anti-rust coating before installing it. Bottom line is check the plates before modifying the vehicle since if they are even 1/64" wider that 3/4" then they won't easily fit through the access hole just do not weaken them by grinding them smaller than 3/4" or by overheating them. Note that some may find it easier to put a wooden plate on a floor jack to hold the hitch in place aligned with the mounting holes before fishing the bolts through to avoid the chance of knocking them back into the blind box frame member afterwards. I am a disabled senior citizen who was working along and using this method made installation much easier for me. One other note of caution is to not push the fish wire in too far or it could go past the access hole and get hung up on the hidden mounting clip for the upper spring perch that is protruding inside the frame. It can be quite a chore to get a tool in there to catch the wire to lift it up and unhook it afterwards.
