What prevents this harness from fitting on the 4 door model?

My contact at Tow Ready tells me that the connectors that join the wiring harness to the tail light assemblies are different in the sedan, versus the Civic coupe model which is why the # 118437 wiring harness you mention is not compatible with your Civic Sedan.
You'd want to use the # 118420, unless you have a Hybrid model in which case you'd use # C59236.
