Necessary Tire Weight Capacity for 4500 lb Tandem Axle Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 21 ft foot boat that weighs in at, with motor 4500lbs dry. My trailer is dual axle. When considering load range for replacing tires, is it correct to multiply tire load rating times 4 to determine safe load capacity?

You're on the right track. You'll want to choose tires that have a combined load rating that exceeds the fully loaded weight of your trailer.

For instance, the # AM30120 tire you'd looked at has a 910 lb capacity. 4 of those tires would provide a combined capacity of 3640 lbs, which wouldn't be sufficient for the weight of your boat/trailer.

We don't offer a tire for an 8 inch wheel that would have the necessary capacity for your trailer.
