Troubleshooting Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller Install On 2021 Kia Telluride

Question:

I purchased the Redarc Liberty and installed in a 2021 Kia Telluride w/factory towing pkg 7 pin already installed. I spliced the Kia supplied pig tail to the Redarc pigtail, tested with VOM for continuity, plugged everything together and it worked just like it should. Hooked up the trailer, tested lights, etc and all was good. Driving I had the trailer connected and I had a Pixel phone connected via USB cable running Android auto Ive used Android Auto for hundreds of hours without trailer. Twice - the radio display went away and displayed the msg you get when you first turn it on, as if it had been turned off and back on.

I discussed your issue with a one of the training representatives from Redarc and while they have not before seen this issue with an install, he did have an idea of what might be occurring. The first thought is an insufficient ground for the installation of your Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller, # RED24FR. Or, interference in signal due to where the power is picked up to supply the controller. If you sourced the power from the fuse box and not directly from the 2021 Kia Telluride start battery that may be the cause.
