Will SuperSprings Stabilizer and Sway-Control Kit # SSA8MTKT Correct 6000-lb Trailer Sway

Question:

I currently use a reese straight line weight distribution hitch for my 6000 pound camper but still experience some sway on the interstate. The camper dealer seems to think my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab possibly is too weak in the rear for towing my camper thus causing the sway at higher speeds. would this kit possibly help with this problem?

The SuperSprings Stabilizer and Sway-Control Kit # SSA8MTKT will fit both 2- and 4-wheel-drive models of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD. These helper leaf springs provide selectable reinforcement to OEM leaf springs and can be installed to provide increased ride height if desired. These bolt-on maintenance-free helper leaf springs will automatically deactivate when the suspension is not under load. They will help to prevent twisting of the OEM springs and will help compensate for minor spring fatigue in older vehicles but they are intended for use with suspensions that are in good working order.

First, given the age of the tow vehicle I advise having the suspension checked by a qualified automotive technician to confirm that no components are beyond their lifespan. Second, I would carefully review the set-up of your Reese SL Hitch to ensure it is adjusted correctly and performing as it should. If after these checks you still find your trailer is exhibiting sway then the Super Springs kit would be a good choice.
