Can a 1991 Toyota Pickup Be Flat Towed or Will a Vehicle Dolly Be Required

Question:

I have a 1991 toyota 4by4 PU, with a 5 speed standard transmission. Would I just put it in nutreal while towing.

Typically vehicles that are equipped with a manual transmission can be flat towed without using a vehicle dolly, however there are usually recommendations as far as putting the transmission in neutral and the key position of the towed vehicle, etc. Through my research I was unable to verify if you could flat tow your 1991 Toyota pickup, and what steps should be taken to proceed, or if a vehicle dolly was required. Many of our flat towing resources and manufacturers only provide recommendations for Toyota Pickups made after 1996.

I was not able to find an on-line version of your owners manual but if you check your owners manual, there should be some instructions for flat towing your 1991 Toyota pickup. If not your local Toyota dealership might be able to provide some guidance regarding flat towing vs. dolly towing and which wheels (front or back) should be on the dolly. There are a few vehicles that do require the vehicle to essentially be towed backwards.

Again please check your vehicle owners manual to see if there are any specific recommendations. I am sorry I could not provide a definitive answer for you, but I have included some helpful articles for your reference if you determine that you can flat tow your 1991 Toyota pick up.
