Yes, you would need a base plate to flat tow your 2005 Jeep Liberty. Your Jeep Liberty would also need to be a 4WD model and it cannot have the brush guard. My recommended base plate is the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms, part # RM-521423-5. You can use this base plate with any Roadmaster tow bar.
