The brake actuator that you have or purchase will state specifically what fluid you will need to use either on the cap or in the owners manual if not both. For the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator, # HS381-8067, you would be using DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. Of course you would not want to mix the 2. If you start with DOT 3 but then later go to bleed the brakes and all you have is DOT 4 then you would need to flush the system first.
