Question:

My 2021 Toyota Rav4 has the hands free liftgate. Will installing a trailer hitch prevent the hands free option from working?

Expert Reply:

The Curt Class III hitch you'd looked at, part # C13416 is a fit for your 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited. The receiver tube will prevent the sensor from picking up movement at the center of the vehicle, but if you wave your foot a few inches left or right of the receiver tube, the sensors will pick up the movement and operate the liftgate.

There's kind of a sweet spot where the sensors work best, but once you find that, the hands free liftgate feature will work just fine.

If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness part # C56434, a # 40346 ball mount and a # PC3 hitch pin as well as # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.
