Question:

I have the Yakima HD Truck Rack with the tonneau cover adapter for the Retrax Pro XR. I am considering purchasing a set of the HD bars to mount on the cab of my truck so i can increase the load capacity. Can you tell me how much weigh I would be able to carry off road if I were to add one or two more HD bars on my cab. I have a 2020 F-350 crew cab diesel with and 8’ bed. Currently i have a roof top tent that weighs approximately 250lbs and the rack it is mounted to weighs approximately 125lbs. The total weight with rack and tent would be 375lbs plus I would like to add an additional 100-200lbs up there if possible. Any information about load ratings would be appreciated to help me make a decision to move forward.

Yakima OverHaul HD Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack - Aluminum - 500lbs - 68" Crossbars # Y01151-58 has an on-road capacity of 500lbs, off-road capacity of 300lbs, and static capacity of 800lbs.

The correct roof rack for your 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty Roof Rack by Yakima would be the following parts:

Yakima HD Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 60" Long - Qty 2 # Y01157.
BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Naked Roofs - Qty 4 # Y28TR.
HD Bar SL Adapter for Yakima BaseLine, SkyLine, TimberLine, and RidgeLine Towers - Qty 4 # Y03541.
BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers - Qty 4 # Y06185.

Because this rack attaches to your roof with clips the maximum weight capacity is 165lbs. I spoke with Yakima and they stated they don't list an off-road capacity for the roof rack and to just follow the 165lb capacity. You can balance the weight of your rooftop tent between the ladder rack and the roof rack but you will have to be careful that the portion supported by the roof rack does not exceed the 165lb capacity. My recommendation is to mount the tent to your ladder rack and then use the roof rack for your 100-200lbs of additional equipment.
