Grounding Trailer Light that Grounds Through Hardware Mounted On Wood Fender

Published 10/26/2021

Question:

I need to ground my tail lights at each light, but they do not have a ground wire coming from the light, just the brake and indicator wiring because they are supposed to ground themselves through the mounting bracket. Unfortunately for me, its a homemade trailer that I didnt make and the lights are mounted in wood and are unable to be moved to a metal location. Where can I connect a ground wire on the light fixture so that I can then run it to the trailer body? Somewhere on the interior of the light box? To one of the mounting bolts? Thanks

What you can do is run a length of wire to the mounting hardware of the light on one end and on the other to the metal frame of your trailer and you'll have it grounded. For ring terminals you'd want the part # 44-5310A.
