Recommended Parts Needed For Carrying a Motorcycle On The Front Of a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 Dually

Published 10/23/2021

Question:

I installed the front hitch on my 2015 gmc 3500 diesel dually a couple of years ago. I am thinking about carrying a 260 lb motor bike on the front. I know the hitch can handle the weight but what about the front suspension. Do I need to stiffen it?

I would recommend adding some SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSF-202-47 to the front of your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500. Your factory suspension on the front of your Sierra is not designed for the additional weight of something like a motorcycle being carried on the front of it. The SumoSprings are a progressive spring that provide up to 1,800lbs of capacity to assist the front suspension in supporting the additional load.

The Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier # UF48-979033 will pair well with a Front Receiver # 65078 on your Sierra. The carrier is capable of supporting up to 500lbs on it and the receiver is rated for a vertical load of 500lbs.

For securing your motorcycle to the carrier I recommend the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps # EM34420 with some Soft Ties # e74BR. The soft ties will help to protect your motorcycle finish and provide you with better attachment points for the straps. The re-tractable straps ensure that the excess strap does not flap around on the front of your Sierra and damage your paint and finish.
