Question:

I am towing a 17k GVW 5th wheel using a Goosebox hitch. The pin weight is 3,400lbs. The DRW stock suspension has sleeper springsinch and sits slightly elevated when unloaded, then squats exactly 2inch when loaded and the sleeper springs have engaged their contact point, and is bed is dead level - so I do not need support for sag. The ride however is still very stiff and harsh and Im looking for the best option to smooth out the ride when loaded. Ive researched Sumo Super Springs, Roadmaster leaf spring enhancement, and even Loadlifter 5000 air bags but I dont think I need those since sag is not an issue. I do plan to add Trailer Helper Sumo springs to the trailer as well. Which option will give me a smoother ride? Thank you

You're experiencing the harsher ride because the overload springs engage when you tow, so what you're really needing to do is add some support to either prevent or delay the overload springs from engaging.

I spoke at length with my SuperSprings representative, who tells me that the # SSR-203-40-2 would significantly improve your ride quality while towing, but using the product could possibly make your ride a bit more harsh when you're not towing.

You can determine if the # SSR-203-40-2 would be a good choice by taking a quick measurement from the pad on the axle beam that the jounce bumper contacts to the face of the cup where the jounce bumper installs. If this height is 6-3/4 inches or greater, the # SSR-203-40-2 would be an outstanding choice and would have enough preload so it didn't have negative affect on your ride quality when you're not towing. I'll provide a diagram showing exactly what needs to be measured.

If that measurement is less than 6-3/4 inches, the # SSR-203-40-2 would very likely be too harsh when not towing. A different replacement jounce bumper like # SSR-207-47 would be the best option.
