When using the Yakima ReelDeal Rooftop Fishing Rod Carrier - Locking - 8 Fishing Poles # Y04089 you'll need to disassemble/separate any rods over 7 feet long. However, you won't have any issues with the thickness of the rods and your surf fishing rods will feet between the jaws of the ReelDeal without issue.
