Identifying 5TH Wheel To Gooseneck Adapter Or Replacement Gooseneck Pin Box On Keystone Cougar

Question:

Do all non-specific pin boxes start out with the fitting that slides into a 5th wheel hitch? If so, does the goose neck fit over the pin when a goose neck hitch is desired. My wife and I recently bought a Cougar 34foot trailer that came with a goose neck hitch. Id prefer not to buy a entire pin box just to make the travel trailer compatible with our preference for using a 5th wheel hitch on our long bed diesel 2019 F250 SD. Thank you.

Your Keystone Cougar will either have a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter that is attached to the pin box or the entire pin box was replaced for a pin box that is only designed to work with a gooseneck connection.

If it is an adapter you will be able to see bolts or bolt holes that are used to attach the adapter to the 5th wheel pin. This connection will also stand out as the mounting surface is generally a large flat square where the 5th wheel pin is attached as seen in the picture included.

A replacement gooseneck box will connect only at the mounting bolt holes that attach the pin box. These are generally shaped different and will not have the flat plate like a traditional pin box.
