If you still need a hitch installed on your 2006 Nissan Murano, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13571. The Curt Receiver has a class III rating, and will be able to handle 3,500 pounds of gross towing weight and 350 pounds of tongue weight. As far as construction, the Curt hitch will be able to take a beating either on or off-road. The hitch bolts securely to your Murano's frame and comes with all installation hardware included.
As far as an adapter, you will not need an adapter for a 2-inch hitch if you are using an accessory that is designed to fit a 2-inch hitch receiver. However, if you wish to fit a differently-rated accessory like one that is designed to fit only 1-1/4" receivers, you will need an adapter like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" # C45770.
