How To Shorten a Valterra Sewer Handle Rod
Updated 08/13/2021 | Published 08/12/2021 >
Question:
My black water valve pull rod sticks out 3inch further than the side of the trailer. Id like to eliminate anything catching on the valve handle. The handle itself is labeled Valterra. The distance from the base of the gate valve to the handle is 39inch with the valve closed. It doesnt seem the rod is treaded on the end toward the valve. I cant see any joint on the end of the rod and I can rotate the handle round and round. Can that rod be replaced with a shorter one or would I have to replace the gate valve? This is on a 2019 Lance 1475.

Expert Reply:
You have a sewer extension rod installed on your valve that is longer than you like. Therefore, all you really need to do is remove the extension and replace it with one that better matches your needs from the list below. The extensions come in a few different lengths but regardless you can look over your rod to see where the break is, hold one end with a pair of pliers, then use another pair to remove the section. It could be multiple or one long one.
