Determining If Yakima OverHaul HD Truck Ladder Rack On 2010 Nissan Frontier Can Carry Roof Top Tent

Updated 07/26/2021 | Published 07/23/2021

Question:

My Truck 2010 Nissan Frontier King Cab, 6 1/2 ft Bed. Questions : 1 The 300 lbs cap. Is that the limit for the cargo and personnel . I want to mount a roof top tent such the Smitty Built Xl and occupy with two folks, me 285lbs and wife 150lbs. 2 With said tent or any tent I would need the folded cargo to set on the rack no higher than the height of my truck cab in order to clear my garage door. Would the brackets mounted as instructed allow a low enough profile for the cargo to stay below or even with the cab? Thank you

I would be happy to help!

The Yakima OverHaul HD Truck Bed Ladder Rack for Toyota/Nissan Utility Tracks - 500 lbs - 68" Bars # Y01151-5868 which includes the # Y01168 you were looking at for your 2010 Nissan Frontier King Cab with the 6-1/2' bed has an on-road rating of 500lbs, and an off-road rating of 300lbs which is for when the vehicle is moving (dynamic rating). This is different than when the truck is parked and you are getting in the tent as that would be the static rating. The static rating is not something that is available, but is much more than the dynamic rating. Typically roof top tents require loadbars with a 165lb load rating, but you will want to check with Smitty Built who makes the roof top tent you are wanting and verify that this would be rated high enough for their tent. In addition the included loadbars measure 3" wide x 1-1/2" thick so you will need to make sure the tent is compatible with loadbars that size.

Regarding the height, the height of the # Y01151-5868 is adjustable between 19" - 30" above the bed rails. You will need to measure from the top of your bed rails to the top of your cab, and then measure the height of your roof top tent to see where the top of the tent will sit in relation to the top of your cab.

I included a video of the # Y01151-5868 for you to take a look at.
