Question:

I have a 2017 BMW X5 with the M sport rear bumper. I see that this hitch is only rated for 600 lbs tongue weight, but is not rated for trailer towing. Is it not rated because it does not come with the wiring kit? I am interested in buying the tow bar, but want to install the BMW wiring and module from the dealer. Would this hitch be rated the same as the SH52VR? Thank you.

The reason the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # SH56VR for your 2017 BMW X5 M Performance Model is only rated for 600lbs tongue weight but not trailer weight is because the receiver is only designed for bike racks or cargo carriers and cannot be used for a ball mount tow a trailer.

Since you cannot purchase just the tow bar without the wiring you will want to go with the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit - Custom Fit - 2" # SH52VR as it will be the most cost effective way to get the tow bar and receiver.

Since you are wanting to use the BMW wiring and module from the dealer, you will just not use the included wiring.

With the included tow bar the hitch is rated for 600lbs of tongue weight and 6000lbs of trailer weight, though you will need to check the ratings of your X5 and use the lower rating between the hitch and vehicle.
