In What Orientation are Trailer Suspension Hangers Installed

Question:
Im getting ready to weld the front and rear hangers to my utility trailer frame and I just want to double check regarding the right position for the Tall Front Hanger 115917. It looks like from the videos that this hanger mounts to the frame with the closed end of the hanger attaching to the frame. However, the picture at http://www.etrailer.com/p-115917.html gives me the impression that the long part of the hanger is perpendicular like a rectangle with the long sides up and down instead of horizontal on the top. When I look at the videos of various leaf-spring installations, it looks like this front hanger is always positioned to the frame with the long side being horizontal and on top which would put the solid part of the hanger as the connection point against the frame instead of on the side. I hope that makes sense. Either way the center of the screw hole is 1 1/2inch from the frame so that didnt give me a clue as to which is the right position. Ive attached two pictures and have labeled the pictures as to which one I think is correct and which is incorrect. If you can confirm I have it right I would appreciate it! My guess is that the long side that is not open is the face that gets welded to the frame. Thanks,

Based on the picture you submitted you would want to rotate the hanger that is in your hand 90 degrees clockwise and weld the flat portion with the 2 holes in it to the bottom of your trailer frame.
So yes, you are correct in how you thought it should be welded on.
I attached an FAQ article on trailer suspension for you to check out.
