Can You Use Wire Color to Determine Function When Installing Tekonsha P2 on 2006 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I am trying to hook up my Tekonsha P2 to my hybrid which has a tow package but does not have a socket to connect an adapter to the controller. I have the manual connect cable and the install is very simple, +, -, Ebrakes, and cold side of brake actuator switch. My question is, as the brake switch connector is in a rather difficult place to use a meter or tester, do you have the correct wire color to use for the controller? Thanks.

The color of the wire isn't always an accurate way to determine the function of it, and unfortunately there's not a database that tells you what color wires were typically used on these types of parts; wires that might have been done in green in one factory and year might have been orange in another factory and year. Unfortunately the only way for you to determine which wire is which is by testing with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 and seeing which wire off the pedal gets power when you press it.

You'll be able to hardwire in the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 directly to the cold side of the brake light switch, the battery and brake control output wire that's run up from the rear of the vehicle; add in your ground and you'll be ready to roll.
