2015 Subaru Outback Snow Tire Chain Compatibility

Updated 06/25/2021 | Published 06/22/2021

Question:

Hi, I live in New Zealand, and some Ski Roads here have the requirement to carry chains. My Manual states Chains Not Recommended I believe due to clearance issues I see that the PW1046 would seem to fit without problems. However, my issue is that some of the Ski Field Roads here are NOT paved - literally one of my favourite Fields is just a dirt/gravel road that is very steep in places and can get well over 2 metres covered in snow and so very often REQUIRES chains at all times during Winter - it is strictly a 4WD road only and 2WD are not permitted to go up it. It states these chains are for Road Only. Do I have an option for fitting ANY chains on my car? Thanks! I have the standard tyres for my car in size 225/60/18.

Many car manufacturer recommend not using chains because of clearance issues around the wheel, but if you live somewhere that requires snow tire chains that can be a problem. Just be mindful of the tire clearances on your vehicle. If you are like me, you would prefer to NOT get stuck in the snow. Well with the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains - 1 Pair, part # PW1046 those occurrences should be minimized. In addition, I spoke with a representative from Pewag who said you can use their chains on snow covered dirt or gravel roads.
