can the cover be opened without opening the tailgate?

The BAKFlip MX4 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding - Aluminum - Matte Finish # BAK52FR (and all BAK tonneau covers) cannot open unless the tailgate is open. However, the tailgate can open when the MX4 is in the fully covered position.
