Will Jeep Tires Work On a Trailer
Updated 06/15/2021 | Published 06/12/2021 >
Question:
If I could, what are the negatives of switching my trailer tire from the 4.80 x 12 LTC, to a 33inch KO2 on 17inch rims? I do some jeep offroading in my 2020 Wrangler, but getting between areas in BC, Canada mean a lot of freeway driving. Trailer has 2000# torsion axles, but doubt if I will ever get it loaded to half that. Just want to add, that I am very happy with the trailer receiver and 4 way wiring hook up I ordered from etrailer. Installation videos made them a snap to install. Thank you.

It sounds like you are wanting to install passenger car tires on a trailer and if that is the case, I recommend against this. The issue is that trailer tires has a much stronger sidewall than passenger tires. Therefore, even with minimal weight, passenger tires will have a much greater chance for blowouts. Weight is not really the biggest factor, rather suspension. The suspension on a vehicle is much smoother than that on a trailer so trailers will ride much rougher putting more strain on the tires. Instead, I recommend the Taskmaster ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 15" Vesper Black Mod Wheel part # MX44FR which has a bias ply so they will work well off-road and they have a much more aggressive tread pattern than most other trailer tires.
