In order to use a brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Item # RED44FR on your 2012 GMC Sierra 3500 it would require the wires be hardwired in. The 2012 does not have an adapter plug however, it does have the wires to connect to.
They are located on the driver's side in front of the fuse panel to the left of the brake pedal. They will likely be taped to other wiring. There should be 5 wires, red, dark blue, light blue, white, and orange. The orange wire will not be used.
The black wire on the brake controller connect to the red wire on the truck. The Blue wire from the brake controller connects to the dark blue on the truck. The red wire from the controller connects to the light blue wire on the truck and the white wire is going to be a ground.
I have included a ink to a video on 2011 to help you locate your wires.
