Question:

Hello, I see some reviews that people have used this hitch for their Tiguan. On your website it states it may not be compatible with the 2021 Tiguan SE. I am just trying to get more clarification as to if this would fit our vehicle. Also, there has been concern about the hitch ‘bottoming out’. Do you believe this hitch will sit low enough that we might scrape the pavement? I have an incline in my driveway that comes to mind. Thank you.

It is possible that the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7395 you were looking at could fit your 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan, but EcoHitch has not had a chance to test it as of 6/1/2021 which is why we do not list it as a confirmed fit.

Instead of getting the hitch and hoping it fits, I recommend install the Curt # C13381 instead which is confirmed to fit your vehicle.

The # C13381 has a 525lb tongue weight rating, 3500lb trailer weight rating, and when we installed this on a similar 2020 Tiguan we found there was right at 10" clearance from the ground to the bottom of the receiver.

It is unlikely that this receiver would scrape your driver way, but you can measure first to be sure. Park your Tiguan on the steepest part of your driveway and then measure from the ground to the bottom of the bumper. The # C13381 will stick down roughly 3", so as long as you have 3" or more clearance you will not have any scraping issues.

If you are planning on towing with your vehicle you will also need a vehicle wiring harness # 118811, and a hitch ball, ball mount, and hitch pin and clip which can all be found in the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900.
