2002 PT Cruiser Turn Signals Light Up When Being Flat Towed
Question:
Hello: You have helped me in the past so I thought I would run this one by you. I installed a new 7/6 pin wiring harness from my Class A to my tow vehicle which is a 2002 PT Cruiser. I bought the car with towing harness already installed. Im certain I have the wiring correct on the 6 pin end of the plug but when I apply the brakes, the yellow turn signal lights light up. The tailights work fine as do the yellow turn signals. Is this a problem within the PT wiring harness itself and what are you thoughts on this? Thanks so much

Thank you for your purchase of the 7 pin wiring harness from etrailer, and there are a couple issues that may be occurring, but not knowing the harness you have on your PT Cruiser does make it more difficult. You say you are sure the wiring is correct, so I assume you have verified the proper signals are getting through, but I do have to mention that if not, I recommend starting there, and testing them with a circuit tester like # PTW2979.
Another issue is that your 2002 PT Cruiser has a separate lighting system where the turn signals and brake lights are on different wires, so I assume a diode kit was used for the tow bar wiring, and there may be an issue with the diodes or the jumper wire between the diodes, and if you need new ones you can use the Roadmaster Hy-Power Diodes # RM-792.
Also, there may have been a converter like # C56196 used in order to keep the brakes and turn signals separate, so the wiring from the converter could be improper, or the converter or harness could also just have a bad ground, so you'll want to check that as well.
