Will Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver C22UR Disable Hands Free Lift Gate Sensor On 2021 Toyota Sienna?

Question:

I was told by Toyota that installing a tow hitch on the 2021 sienna would mean they must remove the hands free tailgate sensor which I believe is mounted beneath the bumper. I want to confirm this and also ask if anyone has experience with simply remounting the sensor to the side of where the hitch receiver sits.

While Toyota is somewhat correct that installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C22UR on your 2021 Toyota Sienna will partially block the hands free lift gate sensor, it will not disable it.

You will just need to place your foot on either side of the receiver and move your foot in and out until you find the sweet spot for the sensor.

If you are planning on towing with your Sienna you will also need a vehicle wiring harness # TK69FR.
