Question:
Hi, does p/n 881081 actually fail at 6000 pounds when tested in the laboratory? Or does the item actually have an additional safety factor on top of that, e.g. safety factor of two or three when 6000 pounds is applied. Also would you be willing to tell me which part of the snatch block fails first if it is overloaded? Is it one of the two bolts, or is it the large hook, or is it the pulley/wheel, or is it one of the two side brackets? I like to know when and how an item will fail so that I can use it as safely as possible. Thank you very much. P.S. So far I have purchased 3 of these snatch blocks and I love them.

According to the folks in the engineering department at ComeUp, the # CU881081 does have a safety 'cushion' on top of the stated 6000 lb capacity, but they won't say what that figure is for liability reasons. For example, if the failure point is actually 10000 lbs, some folks would simply treat the capacity as 10K, which its not. Long story short, as long as the pulley/block is in good repair and you don't exceed that 6K stated capacity, you will never need to worry about failure.
For a larger margin of safety, you could always go with a higher rated block like # CU881080 which is rated for 11,000 lbs. I've linked to a product description video featuring the # CU881081.
