will this transmission pan cooler work on a1985 pontiac firebird will i need a special filter for this pan cooler i mean like one with a longer stem that will fit down in the oil deeper or will a stock filter be fine?

The Derale transmission pan cooler # D14204 will fit a 1985 Pontiac Firebird if it has the 2.5 liter or 3.8 liter engine AND the 700R4, 4L60, or 4L60E transmission.
You will not need a longer filter or spacer when using this pan cooler. In fact this transmission pan cooler fits most 1982-1999 model 4L60Es. Some models may require a smaller transmission filter to get it to fit.
If you are looking for more efficient cooling I recommend a regular transmission cooler that mounts under the hood like # D13503. These coolers offer more cooling than pan coolers. If you have the 2.5 liter or 5.0 liter engine then you can also use fitting # D13018 to avoid having to cut and flare lines.
