Question:
In product description it is mentioned that: When not in use the 4 pole trailer connector will be stored in the rear cargo area of the Toyota Tacoma. - What is a 4 pole connector? -Where in the rear cargo the bed area? - Is it loose or connected to something? -If I am loading scrap metal into the rear cargo area is the connector in the way? Can it be damaged? If the truck is parked in the street and the connector is in the rear cargo area is it in plain site? Can it be taken or cut off? It just seems awkward to store something when not in use in a vulnerable place. Do you have a photo of a connector being stored in the rear cargo area?

A four-pole connector is the connector that gets connected to the trailer wiring from the tow vehicle. It is called a 4-pole connector because the connector has 4 poles that carry 4 different tail light circuits.
Most people will store the 4-pole connector at the rear of there vehicle near the hitch. Check out the picture I attached. What I would recommend you do is get a 4-pole bracket like our No-Drill Mount Bracket # C57202 and route the 4-pole through that. Using this bracket will secure it to the hitch of your 2012 Toyota Tacoma but allow you to access it as needed easily.
Using this bracket will keep the connector out of your truck bed so that it would not be damaged by any cargo.
With the bracket it will not be in total plain sight, but honestly 4-poles are not high theft items and you should not have a theft problem.
