We actually have a video of a trailer hitch being installed on a 2005 Mini Cooper that you can check out. I have provided a link to the installation video as well as a link to the installation instructions. At this time, the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, # C11126, is the only trailer hitch available for your vehicle.

The rear bumper will need to be removed to install this hitch. Our installers found that removing the rear wheels and spare tire made this process much easier. The specific details for removing the bumper are detailed in the installation video.

Once the bumper fascia is removed, the bumper beam will be exposed. The trailer hitch will install between the bumper beam and the bumper beam supports. This step is also detailed in the video. Once the bumper is in place, the only step left is to reassemble the vehicle.

Once you are finished, you can use any class I compatible hitch mounted accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. Curt requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, to be used with any not trailer load.

If you are having trouble installing the ball mount to the hitch that is already on your vehicle, you will need to reach under the bumper to find the hitch pin hole. Because of the hidden design of the trailer hitch, the hitch pin hole sits behind the bumper fascia.

If you need a ball mount that inserts into the trailer hitch receiver opening, then I recommend part # C45521 along with a hitch ball, # 19256 for 1-7/8 inch hitch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch hitch ball. You will also need a trailer wiring harness # C59496 to power the trailer lights. I have attached an installation video of the wiring harness for you to check out as well.

If you have any specific questions on the installation after watching the video and looking at the installation instructions, just let me know.
