Question:

Hello. I have a question about trailer tires. I have a used camper, and the data plate on the camper says to use ST225/75 R15 load range D tires. I recently noticed that the previous owner put on load range C tires, which makes me a little nervous. We have done a lot of traveling with this trailer, and the load range C probably is sufficient for this trailer, but for peace of mind I am looking to replace the tires. I see you have the Goodyear ST225/75 R15 load range E. I like the Goodyear brand as it is American made. My question for you is would there be any problem with using load range E tires when the data plate says load range D tires? I am okay if the ride is a little tougher as no one is inside the trailer when it is being towed. I know trailer tires are supposed to be pumped up to their max, and I know I might need new rims or new air valve stems. Also, would having higher pressure E tires reduce the likelihood of having trailer sway than the lower pressure C tires? Thank you for your help.

You will have no issues using the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # AM10303 on your trailer since they have a higher load rating than your trailer requires. You are right on that even though the tires have a load rating of 2830lbs at 80 PSI you will be limited to the lowest rated component which could be your current wheels or the trailer GVWR.

Using a quality valve stem like the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem - 1-1/4" Long # AM20906 which are rated for over 100 PSI are a great choice since with trailer tires you will need to air them up to the maximum air pressure to avoid creating excess heat to the tire due to their side wall construction.

As long as the tire you choose is aired up to the maximum tire pressure stamped on the sidewall of the trailer tire, you should have not have trailer sway that is caused by the tires.
